FAQ

FiberVictor.com is a private citizen’s alliance initiative chaired by Richard Laing. We work very closely with Victor Township, Bath Township, and Clinton County to make recommendations on the delivery of fiber to the community. Our hope is to have a public, private relationship that is in the best interest of the citizens of Victor Township.

Founded in 2001, STELLAR Broadband is one of the largest residential fiber internet service providers in the State of Michigan servicing over 138 communities with Gigabit and Multi-Gigabit Fiber Internet. STELLAR’s Fiber provides an unrestricted pure fiber Internet service to residential, multifamily, student housing and mixed-use developments. Richard Laing, Co-Founder, and President of STELLAR Broadband lives with his wife and two children in Victor Township and has developed this initiative to bring fiber to his own community. STELLAR Broadband began working with the township in a public private partnership to apply for a federal grant through the National Telecommunications and information Administration (NTIA) as a co-applicant with a private investment to support the overall project. STELLAR Broadband is continuing to pursue various grant and funding opportunities as they become available through Local, State and the Federal government.

Yes. STELLAR Broadband is committed to making Fiber Internet affordable for everyone. We are working diligently towards partnerships that make sense to keep service costs at an affordable rate. Additionally, we are working with affordable programs like the ACP (Affordable Connectivity Program) to cater to those who are the most in need. “The benefit provides a discount of up to $30 per month toward Internet service for eligible households.” Details on eligibility and additional benefits can found at https://www.fcc.gov/acp. These options will be available upon service release.

Construction schedules are impacted by many factors. Such as labor availability, supply chain and grant approvals. We have already completed an initial feasibility study and design. Sections of the network have been submitted for permit approvals. Some construction is estimated to begin late April/early May. Based on partnerships with local entities, State and Federal funding opportunities, and community involvement with the initiative will dictate the speed and deployment for the project. If funded entirely, it is estimated to take 24 months to complete the project.

We have already applied for the NTIA (National Telecommunications and Information Administration) grant for every household in Victor Township. We are also researching other grant opportunities such as the USDA rural reconnect program, broadband equity access and deployment program (BEAD) and the CMIC (Connecting Michigan Communities). Our goal has always been to create a shovel ready project that is worthy of funding. The time and initiative that has already been put forth towards the feasibility study, and appropriate design has only helped with this effort. The next steps will require the local voices of the citizens of Victor Township, and the combined efforts of STELLAR Broadband, and our local government officials

Fiber is the only medium today that offers near infinite capacity for growth. As broadband needs continue to grow, fiber emerges as the only last-mile technology capable of meeting the ultra-high-speed demands. Any solution that brings fiber closer to the home puts into place an infrastructure that has long-term strategic benefits.

In order to meet the highest demand STELLAR Broadband will begin building the densest inquiries first. Pre-subscribing, and sharing with friends, families, and neighbors only assists with building these dense areas within the Township. In the end, we want everyone to enjoy Fiber to your home.

Your information will not be shared with any third-party entities who would not be responsible for assisting with delivering Fiber to Victor Township. We collect citizen information only for the purpose of updating community alliance members on the project’s progress, and for the use of strategic planning in construction of the network. We will also be adding all letters of support collected from FiberVictor.com to grant applications so they will be seen by government officials responsible for issuing and partnering in Fiber for Victor Township. Finally, STELLAR Broadband puts forth all responsible measures in order to keep digital information safe.
